Report on Brigade The Under-Secretarv of «,„ Department of In term I -aI • forwarded copies of the Intrf" 1^ reference to the T? ■ lng' Brigade: ''An inl^tiS^ " Tauranga Brigade was made'on December 15, I9i9,when there " were eighteen officers and mehi attendance, only .one m "n bei ; unaccounted for. Various S were carried out in a salisfactd' and efficient manner, and th. stations and apparatus 1^ good order. Following areth" principall recommendationshat All members of the brigad^o be Properly fated out with tebets '.^HI axes; a 35fttrussed telescopic ladder to be purchased; some' mechanical systemof ringing th ' large hrebell to be installed" The report was received.' Superintendent's Report MrJ.Padlie, Superintendent of the F;re Brigade, submitted a report as from the last quarterly '■ meeting of the Board. He stated • During that period the brigade did not receive any calls Practices have been held regularly and were weU attended, some "useful work having been gone through with the motor reel. The Brigade : also gave a public demonstration I with the new chemical fire extinguisher which proved very, successful. The roll at-present is at full complement. - The motor reel has so far given every satisfaction. The syren that 1 recommended in my last report l\as not yet been obtained astride appears to be some difficulty in securing a suitable instrument, and I have to report that I obtained one from Christchurch (second hand) but" as if has to be. worked off the fly .wheel it is rather a hard job. as the fly wheel on the Ford truck is cased in. The syren that I obtained would cost £2 12s o.d and .the .estimate for fixing same is £5. 1 consider, if fixed.it would give every satisfaction. The reel is also in need of some extra lighting gear, but it would perhaps be wise to hold this over until the next inspection by CaptainHugo, and get his opinion on the matter. I recommend the Board ' to procure^hree cases of benzine. Two firemen living on the station have a little furniture, which is their private property, valued at s £16. I recommend tbat the Board take this over to complete the four sleeping outfits for the men that now sleep on the station, The Brigade intends sending a team of six men to compete at thes United Fire Brigades demonstration, to be held at Napier next • March, and I ask if theßoardcan help us in sending the team away to compete. The" Board decided that the' Executive Committee have the furniture valued with a view to , purchase.
i'he matter of the syren for the motor reel was referred to the Executive Committee with power to act. '
It was agreed to vote a sum not exceeding £10 towards the expenses of a team for the demonstration at Napier, 'providing funds permit.
The Executive Committee was instructed to revise the tfy-laws and regulations of the Board and bring them up to date. _ The Chairman was authorised to ascertain the legal position otthe Board in the event of an accident happening to any of the general public while the'nioto r reel is on duty in connection with.fires. . - :
