Mr C. E. Gane and twelve other settlors residing at Omokoroa and Waipapa, have forward j ed to the County Council a petition asking the Council to put into a proper state of repair that portion of the ro.'id running from the Omokoroa beach towards the , Post Office, it is pointed out that I the work is urgent, and that a i portion of the load is already im • passable. —-The petition has been referred by the Counly Council to the Te Puna Separate Rate Committee. The question of procuring a paddock for the accommodation of horses ridden to school by about thirty pupils cxtrcised the attention of the Tauranga District High School Committee last night, it was pointed out that an area of half-an-acre in Sixth Avenue West was available for the purpose, but this was nearly all sidling and would require fencing. After discussing the question the Committee deputed me Chairman and Messrs Brewer and Christian to endeavour to secure a suitable paddock in proximity to the school.

A young man named Harry J. j Cortesi was arrested by Constable Skinner on Saturday, and brought before Messrs B. C. Robbins aVid C. C. Morris, J's.P., yes terday, on charges of'stealing the ! sum of 5s Btl and also' a money box, the money and box being" taken from the house of accused's employer. There were previous, convictions against the accused, who was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for stealing the money, and on the second charge he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The steamer Ngatiawa is due to call in here at three o'clock tomorrow morning on her way from Auckland to Ohiwa and Opotiki. Complaints reach us that a pack of dogs are roaming the town at night, invading properties in every direction, and making night hideous by their, yelping and whining. If people are privileged to keep dogs they should chain them up. Mr B. Byrn returned this morning from an extended trip to Australia. The Tauranga District High School Committee decided last night to have the electric light installed in the science room of the school. The Chairman reported to the School Committee last night that Mr Mulgan, chief inspector to the Board of Education, expected to pay an official visit to Tauranga at an early date. A,sitting of the Native Land Court was opened at the local Courthouse on Wednesday last before Judge Ayson. Owing to the sitting wof the Licensing Bench the court adjourned from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday morning. The business so far has consisted mainly of succession and will cases and the partition of native lands 'in various parts of the county. The court will continue sittings here until the 20th inst, and will then adjourn to Te Puke.

A meeting of the Judea Drainage Board was held on Saturday morning, at the office of the Secretary, Mi- R. L. Thomas. Most of the members were present. It was decided to approach Sir William Herries asking him to arrange for a government engineer to inspect the swamp, and report on a scheme to be put before the ratepayers. Several ratepayers attended the meeting and expressed the opinion that the majority of the ratepayers were .agreeable to being rated on a larger loan. The monthly meeting of the Tauranga District High School Committee was tfeld in the schoolhouse last evening. Present: Mr B. P Andrews (Chairman), Mrs C. Lowe, Messrs H. J. Bickers, A. Withy,*C. Lowe, F. N. Christian, J. Neal, A. Brewer and Staff-Cap-tain Moore, S.A., secretary. Mr W. R. C. Walker, headmaster, was also in attendance. The visiting committee reported that repairs were needed to certain fences, that tacoma plants in two of the hedges should be replanted, and that the sewerage and drainage systems required attention. Mr Bickers offered to supply the tacoma plants and his offer was accepted with thanks. It was decided to engage a plumber to remedy the drainage defects. The Chairman and Messrs Brewer and Christian were appointed a subcommittee to have repairs effected to the fences. Accounts amounting to £io 6^ 8d were passed for payment. Mr and Mrs Lowe were appointed a Visiting Committee for the current month. The Chairman reported that he had authorised the purchase of timber, costing £i ss, for the purpose of erecting a screen to prevent a draught in one of the rooms. —The Chairman's action was approved.
