Welcome to Sir James Alien"
Aiißtrtiiiun and N.Z. Cable Association Rcc July 13, 8.50 a.m # London, July 12 Sir T. Mackenzie (ex-High - .Commissioner for New Zealand),
presided at an Australian-New Zealand luncheon tendered to Sir James Allen (the newly appointed High Commissioner for New Zealand), at Connaught Rooms. Sir T. Mackenzie said he was sure Sir J. Allen would be received with the same hospitality and courtesy as he had received, and wished him well. Colonel Amery (Under-Seeret-ar/y for the Colonies) in proposing Sir J. Allen's health, said he regretted Sir T. Mackenzie's departure. He would carry with him the good wishes of those with whom he came in contact In welcoming Lir J. Allen he paid a tribute to his work d/Mie in New Zealand as Minister for Defence and Acting Premier. New Zea-
land's record in the war was beyond all credit Sir J. Allen had heavy sacrifices to irake during the war. and now came to England at a critical period of relations wit-in the Empire. There were many problems to solve, but the men who count in the Empire should be in personal touch with each other if these problems were to be satisfactorily solved and a single Imperial policy evolved. It was a wise thing for New Zealand to send a man in such close touch with New Zealand's views and aspirations ; therefore, he cordially welcomed Sir J. Allen. Sir j. Allen, in replying, testified to the great work of his predecessor which the Government fully recognised. He wished personal iy to thank him. New Zealand was intensely loyal to the Motherland- and was willing to help her in all her needs. Loyalty could best be maintained by closer contact between the statesmen of the vp-rious units He had no doubt hwnself that the Empire would outgrow all Us troubles, through the great genius with which the Motherland always mot changes as they arose
