Loan and Mercantile Sales

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report:

At Pukekohe on Tuesday best dairj cows and heifers made £12 to £18 15s; others £8 to £11 10s ; empty caws and heifers £5 to £7 15s; heifers suitable dairy purposes £5 ros to £7 15s; yearling to 18-months emply heifers £3 5s to £5 ; ditto steers £3 losto£s 17s 6d ; calves, best £1 15s to £2 15s; others £1 is to£l r3s; 2 to 3-year steers £6 5s to £9 ss. No grown steers were penned. Beef penned in average numbers sold at fully Westfield prices. At the Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday beef was penned in average numbers. Competition was not so keen as the previous week, and although in places.quotations were the same, generally prices were easier. Choice oxen sold to £2 16s per lOOlb; prime ditto sold at from £2 Us to £2 15s per lOOlb ; rough and inferior oxen £2 4s to £2 lOs per 100!b ; cow and heifer beef £2 6s to £2 12s per ioolb ; steers sold from £12 lOs to £27; cows and heifers sold from £9 to £22 5. Some of the averages were : — Two steers from "Mr J. B. Jordan, junior, Kaukapakapa, £25 10s; 9 steers from Mr E. T. Bain, Rangiriri, £18 13s; 9 steers from Mr R. A. Bent, Putaruru, £17 9s; 3 steers from Messrs Black Bros.. Te Arai, £17 lOs 9d; 34 steers from Mr T. J. Fitness, Raupo, £r6 5s 3d; 10 cows from Papatoetoe, £12 6s 9d. Calves came forward in scarcely average numbers, prices being much on a par with late maikets, and finished perhaps slightly easier. No runners penned. Heavy vealers £4 12s 6d to £6 ss; medium £3 to £4 10s; light £2 to £2 18s ; lighter fat calves £i 5s to £1 19s ; fresh dropped 13s to 19s. A small yarding of figs sold under keen competition, with prices firmer. Light baconers to £5 12s ; porkers to £4 8s ; weaners, a good entry, best £1 5s to £2 4s; others £l 4s to £1 14s ; sows in pig £6 10s to £7.
