ARRANGEMENTS FOR PEACE CELEBRATIONS.

- The Peace Cclebratiou Committee met in the Borough Council Chambers last night, the Mayor (Sir J, C. Adams) presiding. The Secretary reported Jiaving communicated wi'-h representative gentlemen in the various districts a-id also with the headmasters and mistresses of the vaiious country schools, both Native and European asking them to co-operate iv the demount rations on the Monday and Tuesday,
jMajor Mirrielees reported having interviewed Messrs B P. Andrews and J. Guiuness, and other repre^n^ativrs of the Athletic Club, who were willing do take complete charge of the arrangements for the chil t'ren's sport? on the Tuesday afternoon- They would draw up a programme and submit it to the commit Let! for appioval.
It was risolved to leave thf arrangements in the. iiands of the gentlemen mentioned and the Athletic Club to draw up a programme and carry out the sports as iudicated.
Mr Murdoch submitted designs and prices for medals for use as first prizr g in connection with the sports. It w«s decided to order fifty medals at 63 each. They are of silver in the f .i-m of a Maltese cross, and will be in scribed i; First Prize. Peace Celebrations, Tauranga. 1919."
On the nnuon of Mr Robbins, seconded by Mr Green it was decided to invite the Borough Council, che County Council, the Harbour Board. Veterans, Returned Soldiers' Association, Senior Cadets, Boy Scouts, Fire Brigade, Foresters' Lodg^ and of any other body willing to take part.: also Vlr P. Roche (Maungntapu), Mr plarke (Matapihi), and Staff-Captain Vloore as representing the Maoris, to meet a sub committee consisting of the Chairman (Mr Dive), the Secretary (Mr Giftord and Mr 11 >bhins to discuss the celebrations. The meeting to be held iv the Borough Council Chambers at 3 pm, on Tuesday, the 20th inst M and the country representatives to be also invited to attend. In connection with the Monday celebrations it was decided that a fancy costume football match should he held, mid that the Hu^by L'riioii he as^cd to kindly make all arrangements. Tt was also decided that au endeavour should be ma-Je tc make Poi Dances a feature of the celebrations on the Domain and, if possible, to arrange for the Maoris from a.ll districts to take part. It was resolved to ask Stall-Captain Moore and Vfessrs Koche and Clarke to take charge of this portion of the programme and make all arrangements. Major Mirrielees stated that ho had se^n Lieufc, Gardiner, who whs willing to arrange for the returned Maori soldiers to appear in a body and give au exhibition of musketry drill. It was resolved that Major Mirrielees should make all necessary arrangements with Lieut Gardiner, The matter of effectively fencing or roping oft the Domain was left in the hands of Colonel Ward, \]>jor Mirrielees and Mr T. Tanner. In connection with the proposal to provide the children with luncheon on the Tuesday it was decided to leave the arrangements iv the hands of the sub-committee (Messrs Divo, Robbins and Gifford).
The question of securing small fla^s for the children was discussed, and on the motion of Mr Beale, seconded by M: Green, it waidecided that the committee purchase fifty HnzQn Hags (fixed to sticks), the (Jniou Jac<,Jr,):e N-^w Zealand E isigu, and the French aud Belgian flags, assorted.
