LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The committee of the Tauranga Athletic Club gathered in Oig coramer cial room of the Masonic Hotel od Monday evening, when about twenty members assembled to bid adieu to MV David Webb, on the eve of his dpparture for Gump. Mr J. A. Guinness Chairman of the Athletic Club, presided and voiced the regret of all present at losing the services of such a thorough sportsman and estimable citizen aa Mr Webb had proved himself to be. He then presented Mr Webb \uth a lucuinouE-faced wristlet watch as a small token of esteem from the committee of tha Athloiic Oiub and wishei him success in the field and a safe and speedy return to Tauranga Messrs C, F. Oliver, P. J. Kingcjon, 0 Hartley, M. Quirk, F. Armer, L Norris, anl others al?o spoke and endorsed the Chairman's remarks. Mr Webb responded in appropriato terms and said the gift would always serve to remind him of his happy associathn with the Athletic Club. He hoped to return to Tauranga and once again take his place in the Club's ranks. The health'of Mr Webb and Mrs anrl Miss Wobb was proposed and heartily honoured ia the customary fashion. 1 he. function closed with the einging of " For He's a Jolly Good Fellow, " and *| Auld Lang Syne." Mr Wetib left this morning for Rotorua en route to camp.
Cit'zens are reraioded of the joint invitation by the Mayor and County Chairman to meet in the Borougb Council Chambers at 7.30 to-morrow evening to discuss details, appoiot committees, atd inaugurate the cam paign in connectkn with the Tributo to France Fund.

Mr Arthur Laurent, representative for Messrs L R Eady and Son, Ltd, Auckland, will arrive in Tauranga on the 17th met, and will be pleased to attend to all orders left care of Mr D Woollams, the Strand.
A ieminder is inserted in this issue by the Department of Agriculture that all orchards from which fruit is sold or which have been . planted for the production of fruit for sale, although not yet in bearing, must be-registered this month. There is,no fee for registration, but the penalty for nonregistration is £20.
Our Oropi correspondent writes : A social and dance was held in the Oropi Hall on Saturday evening, 7th inst, when Mr F, B. Kensington was presented with a handsome arm chair and a pair of slippers, and Mrs Kensington with a pair of slippers, in appreciation of * Mi- Kensington's kindness in playing for the dances. The music for the evening was supplied by Miss Hollington and Mr Kensing. ton. Songs were rendered by Miss Hollington/" Mrs Thistletbwaite and Messrs Putt and Kensington. Danciag was kept up with vigour. Supper, supplied by the ladies, was served. The attendance, despite the threatening sky, was good.
