London, July 23. ( A French communique states : — ''The Germans to-day attempted to arrest our progress between the Marne and the Ourcq. The FrancoAmericans resisted all assaults and accentuated progress. We passed the heights east of Lacroix and Crisolles and captured the village of Epie.ds. We gained ground northeast of Mont Pere Between the Marne and Rheims hard fighting took place without result for the enemy. We hold our lines in the Courtonroi Woods. The British further north advanced. There is great artillery but no infantry action north of the Ourcq and in the Champagne.
