PUBLIC OPINION.

The Church Army.

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —May I tske the liberty of drawing attention 10 oar Cfeurcb Array Hut Day on Feb. 16th. 1918. We arc- out to raise £100,300 for our work among sailors, aaldiera their orphans and widows, and prisoners of war. We i work in dugouts, ruined barus, shell holes and in Recreation hus, hoacitale, river barge?, soldiers' homes, and in fact anywhere we are wanted. We number our voluntary workers by tbe thousand. A great many of cur hut managers, collectors, secretaries, •nurses, and hospital employees give their services free, bo that our funds msy be devuted to the boys. In addition to the 1000 huts ard other centres the C.A. at Home has provided, wHch are open to all, the C.A. in N.Z. has ; provided funds for eight huts costing £400 each, «nd one tent costing £150. Two more huts have just been prc- | mised; soldiers, like Oliver Twist, are always asking fcr more. We always get into the thick of it and as near to •he fighting as the military authorities allow. We have already more than 200 huts in the shell zone. Our j eoldiers' home in London provide considerably more than 1000 beds for thosa on leave, and everything is done j for the men, from tbe time they are | met at the etation till they leave again for the front, ta make tiieir leave as clean, home-like and happy as possible. For three Vfcar3 the C.A. baa given men, material and money for the service of tbe soldiers of the King as our N.Z. troips hcve experienced. The King, Rt. Hon. Lloyd George, Lord Derby, Admirals and Generals, have gent letter 3 of appreciation of tbe war work of the Church Army during the war. Mr Maseey blso spoke highly of the work he saw done by it. It is confidently expected that New Zealand will add more liuta to those already provided by the C.A. and other associated as they ate urgently needed. — I am, etc , F. WBIBLEY, Hon. Sec. Churcn Army in N.Z. Ibe Vicarage, Orniondville, Hawke's Bay.
