AUCKLAND RAILWAYS LEAGUE.
Some time Jago it was announced that a certain gentleman bad offered
co sub3cribe £5 to the funds of the Vucklaud Railways League provided ten subscriptions of similar amount were forthcoming. Several subscriptions were promised, but we have not yet heard whether the ten have been secured If so, they will.be welcome to the funds of the .League. But the League requires more money if its work is not to ba hampered, A striking illustration of the effective work of the League is now before us
iv the recommencement of work on the East Coaet railway between Waibi and Katikati, and in its advocacy for the erection of the bridge aeros* i'aurauga Harbour. The Waihi Borough Council h*s'made a gjubstantial vote Ito the League. Katikati is raising a I fair sum, ani we ia Tauranga must I certainly no; neglect our duty in I assisting to strengthen the financial tinews of an institution which is working hard to remove ilia isolation from which this district sufora. The district has previous!)- responded well iv financing railway nutters, and now that a recommencement has been made with the construction work I it will bs unfortunate if, through lack jof means, the Auckland Railwaya J League ia unable to exert sufficient f influence and ail to keep it going j vigourously to completion without further intermission.
