Anzac Bay Picnic.
Weather permitting all preliminary arrangements have been made to ensure an enjoyable day on Monday, January 28, at Anzac Bay, the Manuwai being timed to leive Katikati at 8 o'clock sharp, returning in ample time for the evening milking of the cows, but aa a further advantage for that occupation," we will have the benefit of moonlight. The Mayor, Concillors, and their staff of Waihi Borough, have accepted our invitatiun, given by the Road Board, and as the Tauranga Haibour Board aro also due on their annual visit of inspection of the Harbour, we are relying upon having the pleasure of meeting—aa a certßint.v--.vour Mayor, Councillors and staff. Mr Adam 9 may justly be regarded as the Father of the original Harbour Board scheme, and though upon each annual recurring election of Chairman be always expressed yreat pleasure in opposing ruy re-election. I fully recognised that his action a*d his speaking were always dictated by the instincts of a gentleman ii' what he considered either rightly or wrongly, in my opinion, to bs conducive to the best interests of th_ Board. Bui I believe in social intercourse, J believe in combining business with pleasure, and fesl sanguine that a meeting between the respective Mayors and Councillors of Waihi and Tauranga at the social board in Anzac Bay may lead to remove the unfortunate result of that most unfortunate public meeting held in Tauranga on Monday, May 7 last, and that the foundation may be laid for including tbe Waibi Borough within our tauranga Harbour Board area. It will further afford me, on public grounds, the most sincere gratification to feel on retiring from the chair of tbe Harbour Board on the ir.corporatian of the new Board that wiih the inclusion, as at present, of Rotorua and Matata, my original programme of including Waihi will be finally completed.—l am, etc., GEO. VESEY STLWART. Maitray, Jan. 19th, 1918.
