FrunMrF W Btakey, engineer, Auckland, re harbour dredging machinery, and askiug for particulars of the Board's r qu'rcinoa's, wi'h tho view of submitting prices.—lt was decided to rf-ply that the Board is not in a position to purchase a dredge, but would be pleassd to learn if a dredge is available for service at Tauranga. From Messrs Sharp and Tudhope, expressing thanks for t.he;r appointment as solicitors to the Board.— Received.
From the Secretary of the Japan Shipowners' Association, Tokyo, Japan, asking /or information regarding harbour affairs. —The Harbourmaster had replied aud forwarded two copies of bylaws. Mr Southey submitted a letter forwarded by Captaiu Millar (Marine Department's Agent -and Harbourmaster) to Mr Henry (County Council's foremau at Katikati) regarding the removal of shingle from the Uretara river, which had been referred by the County Council to the Board. * After discussiou, Mr Southey said he would withdraw the letter and leave the County Council to deal with ifc Reports Tu regard to the tracings of the foreshore and endowments which are necessary iu connection with the Bill to be presented to Parliament, the Chairman stated that during his visit to Auckland he secured the services of Mr Keesing and with him checked oft each endowment on the several sheets of Government maps. Mr Stewart said tho traciugs will be made on the scale required aud he was- promised the official certificate on the traciugs by the Chief Surveyor. The total cost will be about £5 A letter from Mr Keesing to Messrs Sharp and Tudhope, iu regard to the lithos and traciugs, was read and was referred to the solicitors to reply to Mr Grant, ou behalf of a deputation that waited on the Bank of New Zealand, reported that tha Bank made au allowance to the amount of the. Board's credit balance on the general account, when computing the j aoount for interest Captain Millar, harbourmaster, reported that some person or persons had broken into the Victoria Wharf shed, where he. had stored boards, double blocks and tackle, other ropes belonging to the Board, and some tools of his own that he had beeu using to repair buoys. The Harbourmaster also reported that the surfiiouut of Fairway buoy had been broken by someone. This buoy is to be repaired and a new lock has been procured for the door In reply to a question, the secretary stated thai a quantity of gear, etc, was stolen
It was decided to request the harbourmaster to report the matter.of thefts .to'the police.
