ALLEGED LOOTING.
Sentences Remitted and Reduced Melbourne, May 7 The sentences ou three members of the Now Guinea Expeditionary Force, who received three years' in connection with alleged looting, have been remitted. Similar sentences on two other men have been reduced to nine months In the sixth caso the sentence was reduced from four years to one year.
Great Damage to Forts. Rec May 7,1.45 p in London, May 6 The Daily Chronicle's correspondent before Gallipoli, writing on Sunday, states : " The most prominent feature since the lest message is the great damage to the Narrows forts by the guns of the fleet and the artillery of the land forces.
Maidos was still afire on Friday afternoon. The Queen Elizabeth succeeding in getting most destructive shots on Hoghali and Kalessi, opposite Nagara, until the place was afire. Chanak was afire at midday on Saturday.
It is evident that the fleet has made considerable progress. The Australians and New Zealanders are pushing on towards the coast opposite Nagara. The pitter patter of the machine guns can be clearly heard. The battleships at the entrance to the Dardanelles late on Saturday shelled positions inland to facilitate progress. The French at Kum Kale report that a week's progress has been amply satisfactory in every way.
