USE OF FIREARMS.
Some little time ago a local resident while working in his garden received rather a shock to hear a shot from a pea rifle whiz/, over his head, and -another immediately afterwards knockup the earth close alongside him. Me was unable to discover the culprits and there tho matter had to rest, which is unfortunate, as a substantial lino by a magistrate would have a wholesome ellcct in checking the indiscriminate and unwarranted uso of firearms. The Borough by-law on the matter is clear and emphatic and is as follows ;— uNo person shall carry any loaded firearms or'any other dangerous weapons, or discharge any firearms within the Borough without lawful, excuse : Provided that this .... shall not apply to any person iv His Majesty's military or naval service:*, or any constable, peace oilicor, militiaman, or volunteer on duty. ul\o pei'oon without lawful cause
or authority 'shall discharge any fi^ arms or let oil any fireworks of a^y kind whatever.'" This poiTic:i of the by-law mi^iifc witn advantage l)e rigidly etit'.ue.d.
