CRICKET CLUB.
SEASON TO OPEN ON THURSDAY NEXT
A meeting of the Tauranga Cricket , Club was held in Mr Chadban's rooms on Friday evening, .Mr Datgent presiding The balance sheet was read and showed a credit balance ot' £1 18s with two small outstanding accounts still to be paid It was stated that the equipment wa* in good order, but the purchase of two or three bats was considered necessary. Mr U. 11. (Irifntli* intimated that he had received a letter from the Mercury Jjay Club, asking that the Tauranga players should pay a visit to the Bay this season The opinion was generally expressed that arrangements shoiud be made as early as possible to send a team to Mercury Hay Messrs Baigent, Me Million, Dunne, F.Jordan, I).~JL Otiluhsand Wayte were appointed a provisional committee to canvass for members It was decided that Mr J. Stewart be employed to prepare the pitch on the playing area Messrs "Urilliths and MeMahou were appointed a, sub-coivmiittee to overhaul tho material It was unanimously decided to open the season on Thursday next with Ji match, Married v Single It was stated that several players had settled in the district since last season, and had signified their intention of joining the Club. Soiuc 'of these "knights of the willow" come with big reputations and will prove a great acquisition. Three players of note are Messrs McMahon, Nankervis and Menges The meeting then adjourned till Monday, 10th inst, at 7.30 p.m. in Mr Chadban"s rooms A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings
