The fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was htld on Monday evening. Present —His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. C. Bobbins—in the chair, Crs. G. A. Brabant, J. Murdoch, T. S. Duncanson, A. W. Carmichael, „and F. H. Hamnion 1. Mr Gumbley. surveyor, was also in attendance, —Hospital District. - Hon. W". 11. Heiries wrote with reference to the deputation which waited on him at Tauranga concrning the proposed partition of the Bay of Plenty Hospital District, and stated that the Hon. Mr Rhodes, Minister of Hospital and Charitable Aid Boaul-', informs him that a .readjustment of boundares of hospital districts is under consideration, and j that every attention will be given !to the claims of the Bay of Plenty j district with regard to its partition. { —Recaived. I —Fire Inspector.I Mr C. F. J. Bigg; wrote in reply to ! a communication from the Council, J intimating his willingness to accept i the position of fie inspector. i The Mayor moved -That Mr Biges j be appointed lire inspector for the Borough of Taurjnga.—Seconded by Cr. I 'Ihe District Heatlh Officer, Aucki land, wrote stating the new hospital | will be available for treating Native j cases of sickness when it is opened. I Sick Natives should certainly not be j quartered in the hostelry. The last account of the hostelry was that it was not kept as clean as one could wish. He hoped that the condition has been improved. It »as decided to communicate with the keeper of the hostelry on the lines of the letter sent by the Health Officer. —Fire Hose. — Messrs A. and T. Burt, Ltd., Auckland, wrote stating they were able to ship only two 50ft coils of "Rob Roy fire hose, fitt-d with swivel lug couplings. They asked to be advised if the Brigade is in urgent need of tbe extra 50ft coil and they would endeavour to obtain same. It was decided to write and ask when the balance of hose could be supplied. - -Refund of Rates. — Messrs Norris and Bell wrote stating that the "Hillsdene" and "Brkrley" properties and the shop owned by Mr Coates io Wharf Street have not realised any rent durin? the past year, and'the firm, therefore, applied for the usual refund of rales.

New Zealand.- - A letter from the Prime Minister to Hon. W. 11. Herries was read, and stated that Mr Massey would be only too pleased to meet the wishes of the people of Tauranga with regard to H.M.S. New Zealand staying for a few hours off the Mount, but the programme will not be definitely settled until she is in New Zealand waters.—Received. In view of this the Trustees asked the Council to use its authority in the direction of having the growth of gorse cleared on Hospital Street, opposite the cemetery. The Borough Council was also requested to co-opcr-a(e with the County Council in getting Hospital, Frasor and Simpson Streets put in order before the winter.
