THE WAIARI RIVER.
CLAIM FOIt .DAMAGES.
At the meeting ot' the County Council on Tuesday a letter was >cad from Air N. (,'allister, Te I'uke, who slated that owing- to tne negligence of the Council in not causing to be removed certain obstructions in the Waiari Stream ami in consequence thereof of causing his land to suffer damages continually, he demanded the sum of JC-SO from the Council in settlement of the damages sustained. He stated the damages consist of the Council unduly keeping the Waiari Stream at such an unnecessary height that he is prevented trom having th;> full use ami benefit of his land, and, the sellingvalue of same thas been and is in consequence very much depreciated. If the claim is not settled forthwith Mr Callister stated he would take legal proceedings against the Council at the next sittings of the S.M. Court at Te I'uke for the amount claimed.
