THE MEAT TRUST.
The inlluence of the Meat Trust-on tho British meat industry is a very considerable one. Amercaii packing houses are getting a very extensive crip of British markets, and are duinpiijcr h n ge quantities of meat into the United 'kingdom, more especially of meat from Argentina, where they have managed to secure the control of large cattle and sheep raising areas. In Argentina especially the cattle and live stock are. brought to the various ports on the River Plate and elsewhere, and the abattoirs there arc largely controlled by the Meat Trust. The live animals must be sold there, and the price is entirety arranged by these large exporting firms, and the graziers must accept whatever price is given them. There is, therefore, little competition, and the bulk of the profits are scooped up by the owners of these abattoirs.
