1912-LEAP YEAE.
When the date of the year divided by four leaves no remainder, with one exception each century, is styled " Leap., Year, " a decidedly paradoxical appellation, inasmuch as it it not passed over without remark. Fours into HU2 duly " go :) without a remainder, therefore to the present year of grace is allocated the aforementioned title with all ilih privileges attached thereto, and likewise its disabilities which one does not re<[litre to t>« a. contirQ^ed bachelor to conclude, outweigh the benefits.
Lcirendarv lore asserts that woman 7? privilege of proposal on one day in every Leap lear was obtained Irv St. Bridget from St. Patrick, owing to the lady's cajolery. That right is properly speaking, confined to the twei.ty-I'oiir hours of February lM)th, though custf.m has it in later years that the whole of Leap Year is accord ed the- privilege.
