Details respecting the areas of land leased under various Acts wm presented to Parliament last week.

The total area leased on the 1 case-in-perpetuity tenure under the Land Act is 1,651,235 acres, and on the same tenure under the Lands for Settlements Acta it is 664,678 acres. At the time of lease the capital value of the former was put at £1,519,319, and of the latter £3,873,829. Renewable leases under the Land for Settlements Act total 266,465 acres, the capital value at the time of leasing being £1,313,542. National endowment lands leased on renewable lease aggregate 292,944 arres, their capital value at time of leasing being put at £325,102. The area of Cheviot lands held under lease-in-perpetuity is 26,868 acres, of which the capital value at time of leasing was £145,§97. Information respecting present-day values was sought for, but is not obtainable. The Under-Secretary to Lands says that a fair average increase between the original and present values would be £3 per acre for, ordinary Crown lands and the Cheviot estate, and £.1 per acre for land for settlement land.
