PROPOSED RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION.
PROPERTY owners Will be interested in the announcement elsewhere intimating that a meeting of ratepayers will be held in Mr J. B. Chappell's shop at seven o'clock tomorrow evening, for the purpose of forming a Ratepayers' Association. The proposal has been talked of for some time, and Mr 0. E. Mortensen and several other landowners are anxious to see such an organisation brought into existence. The promoters recognise that the Borough rate revenue has increased considerably of late years the new valuation showing a rise in the rental value of over £3000. They are anxious to see the roads of the town frnproved, and think that a representative body like a Ratepayers' Association will be able to make recommendations to the Borough Council that will assist the latter body in spending the rates to the fullest advantage. The condition of Cameron-road and the Strand is not as good as many residents desire, and it js thought that permanent improvements should be carried out on these thoroughfares. Many also consider that the charges set out in the waterworks bylaws are not altogether based as they should be. There are also other matters in the Borough that require looking into. A ratepayers' association is an aid towards the better government of the borough, and gives the people who have to "pay the piper" a chance to be heard. Every ratepayer interested in the welfare of this richly-endowed town should make a special effort to'attend the meeting tomorrow evening, and help to elect a committee that will assist the municipal authorities in steering the chariot of progress along the be°t path.
