News has been received from" Tf> Awamutu that a wealthy lialf-i;asto namod Graham murdered his wii'o and committed .suicide in iJie Taravvcra district, eight miles away.
Details sho.v that Graham murdered his wife by dashing out her brains wit!) a gun after vainly trying to shoot her with a revolver. From the documents found it appears the Act was premeditated. For the past fortnight there had been, domestic di«agrecments, the wife threatening to leave him and go to Rotortia. Th« s'.oek of the gnu used was broken off and the left side of the victim's head completely smashed in, the brain protruding. Graham then toolt rabbit poison, but immediately alter, being surprised by a Native who ran in, alarmed by the sciearns of the woman, took a doubJe barrelled guii and with a string tired it off, the charge entering his breast in the region of the heart. Death was instantaneous. The woman's left arm was broken, as though she were warding off t.ho blows. The couple were each about 10 years of age. They milked cows and supplied the creamery.
