Mr T. W. Rhodes declared that lie was an Independent. He had given a voluntary pledge lo his electors to vote for the Ward Administration, and he had also given them to understand that he would vote for the freehold. 3Ee had listened yen- attentively to all that had been said, and he was sorry to Fee ko much mud.-slHging. A lot had bf--(M) said against the Government, but not one tilth' of evidence had been adduced in support of it, He wanted
to hear what the Government had done
wrong, and how the Opposition tould do better. The Government had legislated on progressive, democratic, and humanitarian lines, and he hoped* to assist in the furtherance, of the programme of the Liberals.
