HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
WELLINGTON, October 25. In the House to-day, Tho Premier read ths correspondence between himself and the Chief Justice in regard to the Hine charges. Sir B. Stout said that the charges, if proved, were not legal offences, and that it was undesirable that judges should investigate th.9 same. On the motion of the Premier the charge relating to Mr T. K. McDonald, M.L.C., was rtfeired to Jthe Council, and the remaining charges to the Hine Committee. Amendments made by the Council in the Defence Bill were agreed to. The Commercial Trusts Bill, and Secret Commissions Bill, were reported from committee, without amendment. The Post and Telegaphs Bill was reported with a clause giving tho Governor power to take possession of private cable stations in the event of war. The Land and Income Tax Bill was passed through committee and reported with amendments. The House rose at 2 a m.
