OBITUARY.

Auckland, August 1
A well known resident of the North, Mrs Annie Yates, died at her residence. Parengarenga, on Saturday Deceased was the largest land holder in the Nm-th Island. The late Mr Yates was known as the " King of the North," and presented Government with seveu acres of land, on which stands Maria Van Diemen lighthouse. The family own G7,501 acres of freehold, and lease another 25,000 acres. The wife of Mr A. R Crane, managing director of the Farmers' Union, Whangaro.i, is a daughter, and the sor.s are: Mr G. Yates, who is manager of the estate, and Mr L. Yates, who is engaged in the gum business.

The death occurred yosterday of Mrs Valintiue, wife of Dr. Valintiae. Inspector-General of Hospitals ; Mrs Sadler, aunt of Mrs Yali'itino, also died on Saturday night. Both deaths were unexpected, though Mrs Valintine had been in delicate health, lately
