PAPAMOA REQUIREMENTS
" At Tuesday's meeting of the County ouneil a communication was- read f vonj Mr J. Gilmore 1 ; who wrote iv forming tbe Council that at a meeting o( tbe Papamoa No. 2 settlers, held on April 23, when all the aettlers were present, the following proposals were unanimously adopted for the careful And favourable consideration of the Couifty Council : — (l.).'lhat the Council be asked to have a bridge erected over the Kaiate Creek at tbe present crossing ! (2.) That attention ioe callr cl to a very dangerous bend in the road about seven chains on the Tauranga side of the present crossing. (3 ) 1 bat the Council be aiked to have the road from the Waitao to the I Kaiate bridge widened and rounded up, and the remainder of the road put in good order through td the Manga* weka bridge. (4.) That the Council be asked to \ have the road leading to Messrs Garrett Bros', and Harris' properties put in good repair, as it is badly cut up by natives carting atd sledging posts and other timber from the bush. (5.) That the Council be asked to have a finger-post erected at the june tion of the road leading to Mesero dutrett Bros , and the main Te Puke I N T o. 2Boad. (C.) That attention be called to the overgrowth of blackberry and other noxious weeds on native land along the Waitao road. — I Mr Gilmore was present, and eaid his object in attending was to answer any questions the Council might wish to put. j In answer to Cr. Stewart, Mr Gilmore said he could not give an esti. mate of the work asked for. Mr Gilmore pointed out that the Kaiate crossing was dangerous, and a ! vehicular accident had recently hap. pened there. Ihere were 22 children in the gettlcment now, and they would have to cross this river to a school which it _w«8 proposed to erect about half -a- mile from the crossing. In reply to Cr. Spence, the engineer said there were about £40 of thirds in credit for the road. Cr. Donovan proposed— That the engineer be instructed to report upon the cost of the works asked for, at next meeting, to ascertain how much thirds are available, and to say how much of the work is absolutely necessary.—Seconded by Cr. Crawford and carried. Mr liilmore also pointed out that the Bocky Cutting- Papamoa road was in need of attention. He had communicated with the Koads Department on the matter. It would not take much to repair the road. . The chairman said that the District Engineer (Mr Cook) now had an office in Tauranga, and he was the person to refer the question to. *r Gilmore thanktd the Council and withdrew.
