BOROUGH ENDOWMENTS
At Wednesday night's meeting o f the Uoroijgh Council, the Endow, ment Committee reported, on the proposed exchange of borougtt sections for lot 296, section 1, stating tnat the Minister for Justice ■was comnvurnicated with, and that the Minister for Public Works was shown o ver the ground and the matter fully discussed. The Minister, however, could give no assurance that the -wish of the borough wouW be *uccedc<! to until the question of the route *>>- which the railway from Waihi wouw enter the town was finally settlefl, as the section might be required for railway purposes. The committee reported that the -work of painting the flagpole, gjujns, ptc. *h the ftedoubt has been completed, but there is still some necessary work to be done, such as cleaning paths, and mowing down grass, etc. They asked permission to employ labour to attend to same. The, committee suggested that the Council instruct tha clerk to notify tenants that, except where otherwise provided f o r fa, a properly tlra-wn up lease, all rents imist be pojiattle mon-tikly or ! n advance. The attention of the Council was called to the fact' that the lease of lots 273 to 278, section 1, expires on June 1, and the committee rec<wn?ne.nded that} applications -be fcalled Cor, gay, gevcQ years' lea«e of satoie.
