BOWLING.
On Thursday the Tauranga bowling -green presented a very animated appearance, when about 100 ' players and friends assembled to witness a series of games between the T&uranga and Te Puke .» Clubs. The grounds who .decorate-ft 1 wifch>bujnting by Mr R. H'owell. The ladies provided tea and light refreshments during ;the afternoon, whioh were much "appreciated 'by the assemblage. The Te Puke players reached the ground shortly after 2 o'clock, play commenced 'imnKrfiatel-yJi afterwards and continued with vigour till 6 o'elcck, three hearty cheers being-giv-en for the visitors -at the conclusion. Te Puke replied with three ohe?rs, the visitors saying that, although vanquished, they had Bpeiit a most enjoyable iday. An invitation was extended tv Tauranga to visit Te Puke at an caily date. McEwen (skip) 12 A"n interesityi'ttg match was played on Friday between two of the Northern Steamship Company's staff and (a. couplfc ,/ot p«omibenti ' Tauran^a players. The onlookers were treated to a fine exposition of the £aine. At the 19th head both pairs tied, the honours eventually going to the landsmen. Tho game resulted :— C. A. Pratt and J. Bull (skip) 21. G. Homer and — Brown (skip) 20. The same afternoon a keen struggle was fought our for possession of the badges between Rev; W. Goodyear and H. H. Clcenson (holders) and F. H. Alexander aim C Gunson (oballeDgjers), when; the. former pair won on the last head by one point. This match makes the third pair of challengers defeated by Rev. Goodyear and Mr Clemson.
