TAURANGA LICENSING COMMETEE

. » | EARNING TO SPORTS AND SHOW COMMITTEES. Tlo ( uarterly meet.ng of the Tau rang 1 1 icensin i Couin ittee was hell in :he <ourtbouse Mt icon yesterday. Ircstnt : Mr R. W. Djer (chairman), Commit sioaere G. A. Ward aid K. King. Tte transfer of the publican's license for the Waion ngomai hotel, from 11. Brunton lo J. Prenter, was <n-anted ; also, a temp' rary transfer of fhe license of the Pd)a;e Hotel, Te Aroha, from H. Kerr to B. Goldwater. —Mr Sharp appeared for both applicants. Flanß for the hotel to be re -built at Waihou were submitted by Mr fcharp and approved. Mr Dyer stated that -in accordance with the instruction of the committee the police bad reported on the fire < scapes of all the hotels in the district. Those present had decided, however, to leave the consideration of the reports regarding the fire escapes over till the June meeting. The Chairman notified that unless there were exceptional circumstances the committee decided that the future fee for conditional licenses would be £'2 per day. Also that persons requiring conditional licenses should io future lodge their applications at least a fortnight before the date for which they are required. -• He instanced a recent occurrence where a special messenger had to be sent up from Te Puke to liotorua to obtain his (Mr Dyer's) signature to the certificate. One of these fine days the persons interested would find that they were too late in such matters end the result would be that a public gathering would have to go without the publican's booth simply because the Lecessary signatures could not be obtained. The fault lay not so much with the licensees, as with the secretaries of clubs and committees, who put off the matter of the conditional license till the last minute.
