TE PUKE NOTES..
, ♦ (Own correspondent.) On Friday morning, Earenga, a Maori lad on night shift at Mr P. Dudson's flax mill, met with rather a serious accident. About ' 4 a.m. the drum of the stripper burst. The boy, who previous to . his taking the position of feeder . had ifc explained that should anything go amiss, he should lay ; back, on this occasion stood erect and received a piece of the [ broken drum on the eye, cutting ' away the frontal bone over the j eye. Mr Morris of the Matai was c called on the scene and under the > circumstances did what he could i till the arrival of Dr Fooks, of , Tauranga. Mr Dudson took > the sufferer to the Auckland r Hospital where it is to be hoped he will soon recover, but by what i I hear the sight of one eye is comj pletely gone. . The Mission Hall was well filled i on Saturday evening, when a ; Patriotic Concert, the proceeds of r which are to go to the Patriotic * Fund, was got up by Miss Lobeck, ' and the various songs, etc., furnished a very enjoyable evening's . entertainment, especially the I rendering of ' Soldiers of the ■ Queen 'by Mr Bishoprick, for i which he had to appear three > times in succession. t Mr Hope, of Auckland, dentist, J will be in Te Puke for the next few days and may be consulted \ at Mr Kenealy's Hotel daily, after [ which he intends paying Tauranga , a visit for a few days and during s his stay in the Harbour city may ; be consulted at Mrs Noma's boarding house. ! I hear that Mr F. tLangdale, ! (who I am glad to see back again ( in much improved health), contemplates a substantial addition to his business premises and also obtaining the assistance of a gentleman, recently engaged in a business bouse in your town, in the management.
