HOME AND FOREIGN, j 1 Colonial wine duty. London, April 23. —In the Elouse of Commons Sir M. Hicks 3each, Chancellor of the Exshequer, said that the exemption >f colonial wines would involve; >n present consnmptson7 a loss of £20,000 yearly. He feared pre'erential treatment of colonial wines would result in foreign nrines being shipped to the cololies and re-exported to Britain ;hus largely increasing the loss. Sir M. Hicks Beach will receive i deputation of Agents-General in. the subject of colonial wine luties next Tuesday. Peculiar case. London, April 23. — Arrangements have been made between the relatives of Miss Yates, the victim of the Liverpool illegal operation case and the representatives of Lieut. Wark by which Wark receives £2,000 under Miss Yates's will. The Dreyfus case. Pabis, April 21. — Captain Renaud testified before the Court of Cassation to having repeated Dreyfus's confession at the officers' mess and stated that Generals Gouse and Mercier, after the degradation of Dreyfus, admitted destroying a sheet from the note book containing the confession after showing it to Cavaignac. Fergnette, Governor of the Cherchemidiprison, Paris, deposed that Dreyfus strenuously resisted Paty dv Clam's suggestion that ho gave documents to secret agents of other Governments in the hope of securing more important documents in return. Captain Le Brun Renaud told -witness, in 1897, that Dreyfus had never confessed. Paris, April 23. — General Saussior told Colonel Forzinotti that the case agaiiist Dreyfus was a mere presumption of treason. Dreyfus ought to be sent to the Soudan and executed there. General Forzinotti, in his evidence, indicated that Ppty dv Clam constantly tried to entrap Dreyfus and wished to resort to means which he refused to sanction. Dreyfus's demeanour convinced most of the police officials of his innocence Commandant Gallet, member of the court-martial, declared that Col. Henry being a principal witness his suicide necessitated a revision of testimony. Respecting the discovery of compromising documents in Dreyfus's waistcoat after his degradation this caused the public to suspect that it was planted there by Col. Henry's agent. Forgeries. New York, April 21. — Extensive note forgeries have recently been committed in New York, the false notes being so cleverly executed as to deceive the Treasury officials. The forgers have been captured. ' \
