MAKETU.
(Fbom our own correspondent.) A monster meeting of Maoris will be held at Maketu at Christmas, some five hundred visitors being expected from all parts of the North. Island, some coming from as far as Otaki, Wanganui, Napier and the Bay of Islands. Several chiefs are already engaged in an active canvass for money and tucker. ; A race meeting will be held at Maketu on New Year* Day, on th* ; estate of Mr W. Kelly, M.L.C. i The programme will be drawn up ■ in a few days, when it will be advertised. As several good sports i have their names on the Commit- ■ tee and the Secretarial duties are k for the time being in the hands of the late Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club, Maketu ; should have a good meeting.
