Two races were in progress, the competitors in the big class being the Meteor, the Britannia, the Ailea, and the Satanita. In the small class were the Isolde, the Saint, tbe Audrey, and three others. The large snd the small yachts g> t mixed in turning the mark- boat off Southsea. The Isolde and tbe Britannia were almost level the Saint and tbe Meteor were a little behind, on the windwad «ide. The Saint touched the end of the Isolde's boom and swung her round under the bows of tbe Meteor, whose boom swept hei deck*, and the falling mast lulled tbe unfortunate owner. It way all the work of a minute, for tne yachts were going at a great a peed, and there was no time for the Meteor to alter her course.
