' Congratulate me, mother ! Congratulate me, Lizzie !' exultantly exclaimed J.»hu Loveluck, bursting in upon his mother and sister. 'Ruth Sweetley has accepted me, and I'm the happiest man alive !' ' Why, John !' simultaneously exclaimed his hearers. *We hardly know her, you know.' ' Yes, I know ; but she ia the dearest, sweetest, loveliest girl in the world,' said John Loveluck ; ' and L want you to go with me to call on her to-morrow afternoon.' ■• U'm-m ! I don't think I can go to-morrow,' said his mother. * And I'm sure I ctfn't,' said Lizzie. ' Bother,' said John. 'Can't you arrange it somehow ?' * I,m sure she's a nice girl,' said his mother.' ' I know my John wouldn't engage himself to aoy one his mother wouldn't approve of.' ' Of course not/ said John. * I don't see why you're io such a hurry to have us call on her,' said Lizzie. ' You'll marry her whether we like or n >t.' ' Approve of her ? Like her?* said John. ' Why, I want to know whether she likes you I' — Puck.
