Snt,— lt is truly wonderful the apathy shown by the present member^ of the Borough Council on Me quesj tion of the growth of plants on thi streets within the Borough of Taufranga, and I hope that they will ta»e to heart your leader of a few flays ag% Considering the present inattention to the question I am at a loss to know how it was that the motion was carried calling upon the public to clear the streets, for even supposing those who are now out of the Council were all in favour of the subject, there must be still some who voted for it in the Council, for there are only four new members, and these do not constitute a majority. May I ask what is their reason for leaving the question in abej'ance. As you justly remark it is manifestly unfair to those who have obeyed the order, and I do not believe there is one person in Tauranga, whether he has cleared his road frontage or not, who will not say that the clearing is a decided improvement. Those who have taken an interest in the subject were satisfied when the order was given to the Inspector of Nuisances to report upon the condition of streets in this respect, but when at the following meeting the report was not considered but a special committee set up to report on the report, things did not look so promising. However, * hope springs eternal in the human breast, 1 and it waa thought perliajps this Committee would see the things through. The next meeting arrived and the matter was conspicuous by its absence. Being one of those who obeyed the order I feel that it is my right to demand that the Borough Councillors see that others do the same. —I am, etc., Eatepayer.
