Mining return.

AucKLkfftS Saturday. —The return this mouth from the famous Hauraki mine at Ooromaudel is again very satisfactory bringing up the total output of gold to £79,012 for the year, no less than26,6360z gold, worth £3 per cz, having been taken out of this mine since January. For the pas,t lour .months 210 tons of ore was treated which- yielded 2,3680zs of melted golp an increase of 500z3 upoa the previous month's re. turn. • At JG3 pe* oz, the usual value ttf Ooromandel gold, the return from 310 tons of ore was worth £7106. Sports. ,Airc£*4id|, Monday.— The Amateur Atlielio Sports were held on Saturday and were a great success. In spite of the rain and slush some 4000 people were present* The wet weather. Auckland, Monday.— The present stretch of wet weather is proving very injurious to farming operations. In some cases potatoes have had to be replanted, the wheat has suffered and hay making interfered, with. The new Agent-General. Wellington, Sunday.— The ap. pointment of a successor to Sir W. Perciyal as Agent-General wijl probably be decided at next meeting of the Cabinet. It is generally expected that the Hon Beeves will be appointed. Committed for trial. Wellington, Monday.— The hearing of the abortion charge concluded this morning, Mr and Mrs Brown being committed for trial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £100 each. The second charge against the male acputed was adjourned until next fueaday. Suiolde. j OAMABtr, Saturday, — Dowliag. manager of the Bank of New Zealand here who shot himieli yeaterdat, suffered latterly from insomnia consequent upon ill health and tin* neoeasary worry as his position as manage* of the amalgamated bank was assured. It is supposed that his action was a momentary impulse of physical agony, as he had sent for a doctor.
