Wool sales.
Auckland, Thursday. — Yesterday the opening wool sale of the season took place, the attendance was good and bidding fairly brisk but prices realised hardly equalled those of last year on the opening day. It is generally estimated that prices this year, quality considered, ranged from £d to $d and in a few *••»«-> ■» T . >->; about Id per lb below labt^ ■*».. .. i*tes.
The aumber^ baies witfmitfeil to the hammer was a little over 5,200, as compared with 4,365 atthe opening sale last year.
The largest quantity was brought forward by A. Buckland and Sons
who had 1,834 bales catalogued, in a few instances soverel lots were passed in, bidding not equalling the owners' anticipations. In these cases the wool
will be forwarded to London to take
its chance of the market there.
The next sale is fixed for the 9th of January.
Address by the Premier. Auckland, Thursday.— The premier addressed a crowded meeting at Waiuku and received a hearty vote of thanks and a cordial reception was accorded him.
