The Most Ancient of Field Sports.
Falconry claims to be the most ancient field sports followed at the present day. There is an Assyrian bas-relief of a date anterior to 1200 B. C, showing a falconer with a hawk on his wrist. In Britain it seems to have been followed before the time of the heptarchy, and in the celebrated Bayeux tapestry Harold is figured with a hawk upon his hand.
