COUNTY COUNCIL.

The statutory meeting of the above fo£ the election of a Chairman was held at the Council Chambers at noon to-day. Present— Crs. Lundon, K-'^.en, Pratt j PnraLey, Witherow and Lally. The Clerk read the notice convening the meeting and stated that he was prepared to receive nominations for the office of Chairman for the ensuing year. Cr. Latlly moved and Cr. Witherow seconded that Cr. Lundon be appointed Chairman. Carried unanimously. Cr. Lundon in thanking the Council, for the honour conferred upon him said he would endeavour to make himself acquainted as sp9edily as possible with the business of the Council and would always endeavour to rule impartially and satisfactorily and to 'maintain the dignity of the chair. Some discussion then took place as to the legality of do?ig other business at the meeting and.it was ultimately decided that an ordinary meeting be held at two o'clock. The meeting th9n terminated.
