CORRESPONDENCE
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,— The last letter in your paper »»»;. n< >d « Settler" is so utterly fulso that I f p| iwould not be right fo»- u» •• V it pa.«s. having been Chairman of the Uutinty Counuil for 90 many yean. He flays the Government made the truck 8 feet wide during the Maori war, subsequently our County Council borrowed a ram of money under the Roads and Bridges Act for the purpose of finishing thii important road Now, Sir, that road was not made till years after the war, and the County Council never borrowed a shilling to finish that road, or ever spent a shilling: en it, except for the purpose of keeping it o£en. He says we first took a poll of the ratepayers, and that the ratepayers of the County are at present paying special rated fat this. There never was a special rate for thii road. It is all false, not a penny of the ratepayers money was spent in building bodges on this road. He talks about the Chairman breaking faith with the rat payers, etc. If that settler has one spark of manhood in him he will at once apologise to the County Chairman for the false and uncalled for Htatemen's he has made. He says if the County Ch firman and Council took the same interest in Tnuranga and the Bay of Plenty, $ the Te Aroha County Council are doing. Has he gone to the Moon to bring down the Te Aroha County Council, for there is no such County in New Zealand. The other portion of Settler's letter are not worth noticing as they are just as false as the rest. I will simply inform Settler that one of the Auckland papers offers a very large reward to the man who will mind his own business Aid leave other peoples alone, and ask him to try and qualify himself for it. — I am, etc. Jonathan Bbowk.
