The vacant Speakership. Wellington, Saturday .— 1 here seems to bo every prospect of a contested election on Friday next in connection with the Speokership of the Legislative Council ; the prospective knighthood seems to be an inducement for many to occupy the vacant position. The Hons. Oliver, McLean, Grace, Wbitniore, Miller, Stevens and Capt. Baillie are freely mentioned in the lobbies .as anxious for the coveted post. Modification of Electoral Bill. Government have modified their Electoral Bill by granting a vote to freeholders having £25 worth of property. The Bryce Episode. A deputation waited upon theHon the Premier to-day for the purpose ol asking him if Government would tab fteps to place a proposal before the House with a view of passing a reso lution to expunge tho vote of censure on Mr Bryce from the journals of the House. It was pointed out that the best way to deal w.th the matter wasto submit a resolution with the object of removing from the journals tb« motions passed censuring Mr Bryce. Mr Gißborne and Sir Julius Yogel. The Premier concurred in this view, and it was finally arranged that Messrp Thompton and Lawry should draft a resolution and place it in the hands of the Premier, who would submit it U the Cabinet, Mr Ballauce stating ht had no doubt it v/ould be accented. *
