A director arrestedSydney, November 14. — Mr Addy, Managing Director of the British and New South Wales Investment Society, has been arrested at the instance of the liquidators on a charge of falsifying the bpoks and defrauding the Society out of £100. On Eriday evening this welLknown lecturer delivered f his lecture; oq Scottish characteristics, in the Public Hall to a numerous audience. Mr West was very happy iv his delineations of Scottish c&araeterss such ,-< The Parson," "The Jfeadj^v ■;" The Scotchman making love," efc, and in dealing with the Scotch as a nation as well as individually, he referred imprefsively to their religious life and bravery, and. illustrated their contempt of titles in the abstract, by aQ eloquent recital of Burns's poem "A man's a man for a' that." The lecture was brightened with a vast fund of characteristic and numerous stories which kept the attention of the audience, and occasionally eonvuiaed them with laughter. During the evening songs were sung by Mrs fjundius, Miss Eobinson and Mr Jones, and the chair was ably filled Mr, Badger. At the conclusion of ilie lecture a vote of thanks to Mr West was carried vociferously, and the meeting was closed by the company Binding '.* A-uld lang ayae."
