' THE ELECTION AND THE UNION, A meeting of the Tauranga Lumpers' Union was field at noon op election day. The meeting was called by advertisement written with chalk on a black-board, at the suggestion of the meet prominent member of that body. The meeting was held in a blacksmith's shop. There were 15 members present, and the prominent member was called to the chair. The Chairman explained that the meeting was called for the purpose of taking united action, in this election, and to vote for one and the same candidate and proposed that a deputation of two wait on the candidates to arrange terms, which was agreed to. The deputation shortly afterwards returned with the report that the candidates and agents knew them not, and consequently would have nothing to do with them. So ended this remarkable meeting. Hoping that the publication of the above will not be the means of the Union losing any of ita friends. lam eta, Vote*
