Resolved that the thanks of the Committee were due to |£r Crosby for his public spirited conduct in contributing towards the subsidy of the Tauranga Tourist Agency, and that the Tauranga public be requested to contribute towards the agent's expenses during the ensuing two months. Besolved that the thanks of the Committee were due to Mr Griffin for his efforts in counteracting the false and damaging reports about the district circulated by interested Auckland ers, and for his action in endeavouring to induce desirable tettlers to come to Tauranga. After much discussion it was resolved unanimously that the sphere of the Committee's operations ought to be extended under new auspices and with a new and more comprehensive name. v Resolved that the name of the Committee be changed from "The Tauranga Advertising Committee," to "The Tauranga Town and County Advancement League," that the patrons of the Association be Capt. Morris, MiL.C, and Wm Kelly, Esq., M.H.R., that the ex officio President and/ Vice-President be respectively His Worship the Mayor and the Chairman of the County of Tauranga ; and that the following gentlemen be tho mating Committee, vis :— Colonel Bowell, Messrs B. Its operations were to comprise everything calculated to promote the prosperity of the district such as the opening np and settlement of the unoccupied lands of the district, the encouraging' of 16cal industries such as mining, the improvement of the harbor, bringing effective pressure to bear on Government for getting the transport facilities of the district improved whether by canal or railway, advertising the merits of the district, placing reliable information as to the district before the public and possible settlers, and publishing such information in an interesting form. Resolved that the league request the Marine Department to lend a dredge for improving the navigation of Tauranga harbour. The Chairman read the following extract from, a letter received by him from a tourist agent in San Francisco, dated 19th October last: —'Tour kind letter of September 7th, came to hand by the "Zealandia." Will keep my weather eye open for any tourists going to your part of the world, and will give them your address* and talk up jour country the best I can." .Resolved that the letter be forwarded to Mr Griffin for bis information. Another letter from Frisco was read with reference to the approaching visit of the American base ball team and tourists to New Zealand. Besolved that this letter be ale <t sent to Mr Griffin with private in* structions, and that the Mayor be asked to invite these tourists to visit the Hot Lakes via Tauranga.
