ATrot&er feature of Tuesday's pro* eeedings was the turning of the first sod of the Jubilee 3?unip at the Quarter-acres, on Cakeron Road, Noon was fixed for \he ceremony and a flag marked tße spot. The assemblage sang thef "National Anthem, and the Mayor, f the Rev. C. Jordan, referred to "the* pleasure it gave fc : m to assist in {providing a water-supply for that |art of the Borough, and |spoke appropriately to the occasion. The Mayoress, Mri Jordan, in a neat speech thanked them for the honor they fcad done her in asking her. to turii the iod, and referred to water as emblematic of the pure reign of - tbe QueoL She also hoped this would mark th| opening of a Jubilee year for Taufanga. She then turned the sod ai&d cheers, remarking that she wished|it was the first sod of the railway she, -was turning. Cheers were then gi ven for the Mayoress and Mayor, i "pleasant ceremony having'befn mosi pleasantly carried through. - ; | ; ' , /
