Th e loss, which was about dBIOOO, W as covered by insurance. At the farewell tea meeting, given to Marshal Booth, of the Salvation Army, on Monday night, upwards of 500 were present. The Marshal gave and interesting account of the Army's work in the slums of Auckland and the good which was being done. At a meeting of the provisional committee last night, the rules of the Caledonian Society were adopted. * The election of permanent officers takes place on Friday. The steamer Doric is expected tomorrow from London and will load 4000-careases of frozen mutton. The election of City Councillors for vacant seats took place yesterday without a contest. The-Mercury Bay Timber Company held? ftheir- half yearly meeting to-day. The- report ' showed a credit balance of £W)00.
