According to the Nusret, it contained the following passage :— "I swear by God and the Prophet that Idonot wield tfcV sword to found for myself a kingdom on earth, or to amass wealth, prto reside in splendid palaces, but td bring comfort and relief to all Believers, and free them from the slavery imposed upon them by Unbelievers, as also to restore to the Moslem faith its old glory. I am , therefore" determined to carry my I sword from Khartoum to Berber, and j thence to Dongola, Cairo, and Alox- . andria, and .to restore these cities to Moslim rule. From Egypt I will proceed to the land of the Prophet, and drive out the Turks, whose- reign is not better than that of Unbelievers, and restore its two holy cities to the Vfous.-oE Isinael. Believe, therefore, O sons;, of- Ismael, that I Bhall soon appear in your midst armed with the Bword of faith."
