THE NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION AT OPOTIKI.
Mr Thomas Daws on, of Opotiki, writes to us re election matters : — "Anything more dastardly, untruthful and one-sided than the representations made by the Opotiki iferald in support of the Kelly faction could not possibly be imagined. Dr Eeid has challenged, these statements in the local print, and I request you will do so through your own columns. Kelly's meeting here was exactly what your telegram represented it to have been, — a dead failure, consummated by a vote of no-confidence in his candidature, carried by an overwhelming majority. I, in company with other supporters of Mr John Sheehan, made a house-to-house canvass, and I am prepared to state that out of (50 electors pledged for Sheehan I do not think a single one will go astray,'' [We have taken pains to find out whether our "occasional correspondent" was strictly accurate in his telegram, and other evidence is forthcoming from independent sources corroborating the facts with Mr Dawson.]
