Sir, — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the number and date quoted b. the margin, relative to the formation of a Volunteer Corps at llotorua, and in reply to request you will convey the thanks of the Hon. the Defence Minister to the gentlemen who offer their services and to express his regret that the limited number of arms in store necessitates the acceptance of only such corps as are absolutely necessary for the defence of the principal towns in the Colony. — I have the honor, &c, H.
