Eight inches of rain have fallen dur ing the past 36 hours. All the low' lying country is under water.
A terrible accident occurred to thja. mail train last night near Cootanumbra, on the southern line. Owing to the heavy rain the embankment had given way, and the train passed into a gap in the darkness and was completely wrecked. Many carriages telescoped, and several passengers were killed and wounded, and the scene was one of intense horror. Assistance has been sent.
A match commenced on Saturday between the English cricketers and a local eleven. The former went in first, and were all out for 209. When play ceased the home team had lost two wickets for 21 runs. »
