At Newmarket to-day Prince Bathyani. of Vienna, attache to the AustroHungarian Legation to London, died suddenly in the enclosure at the racecourse.
The wool market is unchanged. Up to date 305,000 bales have arrived. .
The wheat market is irregular, but has an upward tendency. Adelaide is worth 50s per 49Glbs ; New Zealand is worth 46s 6d per 4961b5. New Zealand wheat (f.a.q., to arrive by iron ship) is - worth (c.i.f .) 46s per 4801bs April bill of lading, and 45s Od per 4801bs May bill of lading. The tallow market is firm. Mutton is worth. 46s ; and beef 44s 6d per hundredweight. . The leather market is quiet. Best sides lid. The New Zealand hemp market is quiet. Fine is worth £28 per ton. April 26. A collision, attended with serious loss of life, took place in the English Channel at midnight on Tuesday between the ship British Commerce, 1,417 tons, "bound from London to Melbourne, and the ship County of Aberdeen, 1,865 tons, from Calcutta to London. The British Commerce was cut down below the. water line, and sank almost immediately, only Captain Jones and the boatswain being saved. These two managed to clamber on board the County of Aberdeen, the number of lives lost was 25. The County of Aberdeen was severely damaged, and was towed into Portsmouth to undergo repairs. The accident is attributed to the weather, which was very thick at the time. Both vessels had general cargoes. The trial of Michael Pagan, the fourth of the prisoners who have been committed for trial for the muriU-r of Lord Cavendish and Mr Burke, commenced to-day. Another of the 'visoners, Joseph Hanlon, has turned informer.
